Meet Khyla

Grade 8

All-around gymnast.
Dynamic dribbler.
Fierce competitor.

Her light beams bright.

Eighth grader Khyla’s energy is undeniable. Acrobatic and armed with a can-do attitude, Khyla is an avid athlete who stuns on the uneven bars and on the basketball court. Flexibility comes naturally to this aerodynamic tumbler—she balances her schoolwork right alongside her practice schedule with grace.
Whether she’s practicing her Spanish or learning new tricks on the mat, Khyla is a high flyer in every way.

List of 5 items.

  • Favorite class:

Spanish. “I’ve worked hard to get better at Spanish this past year. I like learning a new language because it gives you another way to communicate with people.”
  • How she builds confidence:

At the gym. "I started gymnastics when I was three years old. I compete in meets and enjoy all of the different events—floor, beam, vault, and bars. My favorite events are bars and floor. I’m working on a skill called giants on the uneven bars right now. I like that I can express myself through gymnastics. To me, it’s really fun."
  • How she wants to shake the world:

"I want to be a pediatrician because I like helping people and I love kids. I want to go to medical school and change the world by being a doctor."
  • How she expresses herself:

Through athletics. “Sports have always been a huge part of my life. I’ve done gymnastics, football, soccer, track, and basketball. Last year was my first time on a basketball team and I loved it. I definitely want to keep playing and pushing myself.”
  • Favorite thing about Ellis:

“I love the people at Ellis. The environment is really welcoming and the people are really nice. When I came in sixth grade, I was worried about making new friends, but everyone was so friendly and I made friends fast. I feel like I can be myself here. It’s a privilege to go to Ellis.”
