Middle School at Ellis

Helping Girls Find Their Spark and Reach Their Potential
The Middle School empowers girls entering grades 5 to 8 to take academic risks, develop new skills, and discover their passions.

A Place that Really (Really) Gets Middle School Girls

Middle school is a dynamic stage of growth—academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. At The Ellis School, we embrace both the excitement and the complexity of this time in a girl’s life. Students are encouraged to build independence, make meaningful choices, and engage deeply in their learning. Our Middle School empowers curious, joyful learners to become engaged community members and resilient problem solvers.

Why Start with Fifth Grade?

We believe girls thrive when they begin middle school from a place of confidence and strength. Starting in fifth grade allows students to transition during a time of natural curiosity and self-assurance—before outside pressures often begin to limit interests and confidence. This intentional structure helps girls expand independence, explore widely, and grow into their own voices with support at every step.

Support, Challenge, and Self-Discovery

Girls grow most when they feel both supported and challenged. Through our advisory program, students build strong relationships with peers and faculty while developing essential life skills. Daily time for reflection and dialogue helps girls strengthen self-awareness, practice communication and advocacy, and build confidence in who they are and what they believe.
