• A vintage vantage point:

  “I love vintage shopping and visiting new stores in the city. My top vintage places to shop are Eons and Hey Betty. One of my favorite things to do is put on a nice outfit, listen to music, and dance in the street! It makes me feel like I’m the main character in a book—it’s just the best feeling!”

• Favorite subject:

  English class. “Writing is therapeutic in a way. I’m able to express myself and reflect on my feelings and experiences. This past year, I have gotten really into writing poetry and especially enjoy gothic poets like Emily Dickinson and Edgar Allan Poe.”

• What she’s good at:

  Soccer, a sport she’s been playing since she was five years old. “I play for Ellis, Pittsburgh Football Club, and the Plum Raiders. I hope to play Varsity at Ellis next year. Soccer is also a way I express myself. I just play and leave whatever I’m feeling on the field. It’s a different kind of outlet for me.”

• How she’s gained confidence:

  “I think that the key to being independent is being able to ask for help. My teachers are hands-on, and if I get something wrong, I know they’ll work with me and help me figure it out.” 

• Music maven:

  “Music has always been a humongous part of my life. I play electric guitar and I recently started taking voice lessons. I love rock n’ roll and R&B, but I really listen to all genres. I collect records and have everything from the Beastie Boys and Joan Jett to Etta James and A Tribe Called Quest.”

• How she uses her voice:

  “I love how everyone gets the chance to speak up at Ellis. I feel like I've gotten more confident because I know that even if I say something my classmates don’t agree with, they will listen and be respectful. I think that’s really cool.”
