Discover The Girls Academies at Ellis: Arts, Humanities & STEM for Future Leaders
Beginning in Grade 10, students choose one of three Academies and engage in a mix of Signature programming designed to deepen their knowledge and expertise in that area and build leadership skills. In year two, students will be challenged to engage in community-wide endeavors outside of Ellis related to their Academy. This may take the form of an internship or mentorship, a partnership or project collaboration. This aspect of the program will culminate in the Senior Project, which will be the capstone of their Academy endeavor.
The Girls Academies encourage students to take ownership of their learning, which helps build lasting academic confidence. With an expanded array of electives that support interdisciplinary study, it also serves as a strong differentiator in the college admissions process.
The Arts Academy
The Arts Academy invites students to explore creativity as a form of expression, inquiry, and innovation. Through a blend of visual and performing arts, design, and interdisciplinary electives, students will develop both technical skills and artistic vision while learning to think critically and communicate powerfully. The Academy Signature class will ground them in the study and practice of the arts, complemented by electives that deepen their understanding of creative disciplines. Students will graduate ready to apply artistic thinking to any field with an opportunity to earn a Distinction that celebrates their mastery of imagination, craft, and collaboration.
The Humanities Academy
The Humanities Academy offers students an intellectual home for exploring the power of ideas, language, and human experience. Grounded in literature, history, philosophy, and social sciences, this Academy helps students understand the world and their role in shaping it. Through discussion-based classes, research projects, and electives that connect across disciplines, students learn to analyze complex issues, communicate with clarity, and lead with empathy. They will have the opportunity to earn a Distinction that recognizes their insight, curiosity, and voice.
The STEM Academy
The STEM Academy empowers students to investigate the systems and discoveries that drive our modern world. With a foundation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, students engage in hands-on learning, problem-solving, and innovation that connect theory to real-world application. This Academy’s Signature courses and specialized electives encourage curiosity, collaboration, and creativity as students design experiments, build models, and tackle authentic challenges. Graduates who complete the program may earn a Distinction that affirms their depth of knowledge, analytical skill, and drive to explore and invent.
