Ellis Soccer Players Earn WPIAL Honors

Two Ellis soccer players earned postseason honors in recognition of their excellence on the field this season. Juniors Kat Ference and Becca Rust were awarded spots on the 2017 WPIAL All-Section team in honor of their hard work, commitment, leadership, and athleticism. In celebration of these accolades, Head Varsity Soccer Coach Tim Howard shared his perspective on this year’s All-Section athletes.
Kat Ference, Class of 2019 – Class A All-Section
Forward and team captain Kat Ference was the top scorer this season, notching at least one goal in nine different games. Kat's unique ability to play any position on the field with great skill and athleticism made her an invaluable asset to the team. As the go-to penalty kick shooter, Kat buried five in the corners on six attempts this year, only missing one due to a great save by our opponent’s goalie. Her individual effort and endurance, as well as her positive sportsmanship and relentless hustle, inspired her teammates on and off the field.

Becca Rust, Class of 2019 – Class A All-Section
Goalkeeper and team captain Becca Rust was the voice of the team. She lives and breathes, and probably dreams, about soccer. A very determined and passionate athlete, Becca kept the team alive and competitive for long stretches in many games this season. She is a natural leader who was voted both captain and MVP by every player on the team. When she is not practicing and playing for Ellis, Becca trains and plays for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds under 19 team. She is intensely focused on playing Division I soccer and has been spent several weekends this season visiting prospective top 50 college soccer programs.
