Ellis Future City team wins 3rd place at Regional Competition

The Ellis Future City team, competing against 42 teams from across the region, placed third overall at the Saturday, January 18 regional competition. The team, comprised of ten Ellis Middle School students, displayed their city model and presented their research to a panel of judges.  This year's challenge was Tomorrow's Transit. Teams were asked to identify a problem with transporting people in their Future City and to design a mode of transportation that would solve this problem. The Ellis team decided to take on how extreme winter conditions impact roads and cars. The team set their city in Alaska and designed a new road surface and cars to manage extreme conditions.
After an exciting morning, it was announced the Ellis team made it onto the list of top five schools. Each of those schools presented once more to the judges in auditorium full of teachers, mentors, and family members. Our girls did an amazing job and earned a third place ranking overall!

"We are thrilled with the work the girls have done and could not be more proud of the time and effort that each and every one of them put into the success of the team, "said Ellis Future City advisor Kim Mechling, who, along with teacher Andrea Christian-Michaels, mentored the team through this process.

Ms. Christian-Michaels added, "We would like to thank all of the Ellis parents, faculty, and friends who stopped by to support the girls and especially our mentor engineer Frank Sidari whose wealth of knowledge and experience were vital to our success."

Please join us in congratulating the entire Future City team, listed in alphabetical order by last name, for this tremendous victory.
