Ellis Senior Recognized as a National Merit Scholar Finalist

Dory Johnson, Class of 2019, has been recognized as a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program. She is now one of 15,000 students who will be considered to be a National Merit Scholarship winner.
In order to become a finalist, students had to provide their academic record, information about participation in school and community activities, employment, as well as honors and awards received and leadership abilities. Finalists will be told if they have received a National Merit Scholarship based upon their accomplishments and potential for success in college courses. Winners of the National Merit Scholarships will be announced by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in nationwide news releases between April and July.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition which began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test—a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year—and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.
