Ellis welcomes qualified applicants who will thrive in our challenging learning environment and make positive contributions to the School. The admission process is designed to give you opportunities to become familiar with Ellis and to help us get to know your daughter and your family. We look forward to working in partnership with you. Applications must be received by January 1. Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis as long as space is available.

If you are interested in applying for financial aid, all applications must be received by January 15 from prospective families. Applications received after the deadline are placed in a wait pool. More information can be found here, and you may begin the application process here.

  • Pre-kindergarten

    Visit campus
    The best way for parents to get to know The Ellis School is through a personalized tour of the campus. Pre-kindergarten applicants spend two hours in the classroom. Please call the Enrollment Management Office at 412-661-4880 in order to schedule all interviews, visits, and meetings. It is not necessary to complete an application in order to do so.

    Meet with the Head of the Lower School
    Our administrators are deeply invested in our students’ support and success, and this investment begins in the admission process. This one-on-one meeting is your opportunity to share information about your daughter’s special gifts, needs, and talents, to ask questions about The Ellis Lower School, and to learn about what makes an Ellis education distinctive.

    Submit the admission application online
    Complete our online application form at apply.theellisschool.org. If you have not inquired before, you will be asked to create a username and password for the admission portal. You will be able to return to this portal to review your application checklist throughout the process.

    Schedule pre-kindergarten classroom visit
    Please call the Lower School Admission Coordinator at 412-661-4880 to register for a pre-kindergarten classroom visit. This required visit provides your daughter with the opportunity to immerse herself in the classroom while our teachers interact with and observe her among her peers.

    Request teacher recommendation from current program (if applicable)
    If your daughter is currently enrolled in a program, please use the built-in request process within the admission portal to ask your daughter's teacher to complete the teacher recommendation form. S/he will submit it to Ellis directly.

    Admission Interview
    Your daughter will meet with a member of the Middle or Upper School Admission Committee during her campus visit day.
