Two Ellis soccer players earned postseason honors in recognition of their excellence on the field this season. Juniors Miranda Lightner and Dalia Milch were awarded spots on the 2019 WPIAL All-Section team in honor of their hard work, commitment, leadership, and athleticism. In celebration of these accolades, Head Varsity Soccer Coach Tim Howard shared his perspective on this year’s All-Section athletes.
Miranda Lightner, Class of 2021 | Class 1A All-Section
Miranda is an extremely intelligent and talented soccer player who showcases her agility and ability all over the field. During the 2019 season, Miranda elevated her offensive attack by playing with heightened toughness, wisdom, and confidence. She kept us competitive in every game she played. Her prodigious shots and consistent corner kicks were a continuous threat to our opponents. She defends with exceptional focus and patience, and covers tightly while reading her competition so well that they have such little space to work with. As captain and our leading goal-scorer this season, Miranda demonstrated her passionate leadership and her relentless athleticism.
Dalia Milch, Class of 2021 | Class 1A All-Section
Dalia is the epitome of sportsmanship, dedication, and toughness. She is an extraordinary soccer player who exhibits incredible athleticism and positive leadership. Dalia is a natural captain and it was a role she thrived in this season. Driven by her competitive spirit, Dalia gives everything she has on the field, in practice and during games, and still demands more of herself. All season, she battled against our opponent's top forwards and held her own no matter their size, strength, or skill. Dalia scored three clutch goals this season, a rare feat for a defender, and two of them were game-winners. Her crafty footwork and playmaking ability alone makes her an asset to our team, but the respect she has earned from her teammates is palpable.
