Artist's Statement: When I first entered high school, I thought I would be spending most of my time doing my academics, I had no idea some of my best memories in high school would be made in the clay studio.
Freshman year I walked in and was immediately surrounded by a massive collection of people with different ideas and insights and talents. There were people from every grade, everyone working on different things, everyone helping one another. My first home in the high school was the clay studio. Whenever I walk into the room and see the canvas covered tables, the many wheels, and Ms. Sturdevant’s pile of lifesavers I know I am in a place where I can channel everything in my life into beautiful pieces of clay. I love clay because it allows the artist to express themselves fully. And I love clay at Ellis because nowhere else in the school can you find such an amazing collection of talented people, such a wonderful and eccentric teacher, and a room so full of love it spills out the sides.
