Artist's Statement: I have always had a connection to clay. My late grandfather really loved pottery and had many pieces in my grandmother and his home. So from the time I was really little, I was surrounded by clay. As a result, I have always enjoyed creating works with clay.
When I rejoined clay in sophomore year after a year on hiatus, I was happy to be back in the studio, able to expand my mind to the world around me and create works of art. I am certainly not the best at it nor the most artistically creative person. However, I feel I was truly able to express myself through my clay work. Using the pottery wheel has always been my favorite and the thing that has given me the most interesting stories. From mysterious sponges to fallen electronics, I have memories to last a lifetime. I am very grateful for the time that I have spent in clay and for Ms. Sturdevant’s unending support, cheerfulness, and Life-Savers. By this point in my life, I have probably eaten several bags full of her inventory. While I am sad that my time in the clay studio at Ellis is over, I am very optimistic that I will be able to continue to create new awesome pieces in the future.
