Abi Zimmerman

Artist's Statement:
My name is Abi Zimmerman and I am a 12th grader. I have always enjoyed working with clay since I was in fourth grade, and since I began here at Ellis in 9th grade. Creating a piece out of clay is one of the most fascinating and beautiful forms of art, and there are no limits to what you can make.
Since my sophomore year, Ms. Sturdevant has provided us with the opportunity to work with Raku clay. I had never heard of raku clay prior to Ms. Sturdevant introducing it to us, but I will never forget the memories included with the glazing and firing process. Two of the pieces presented in this exhibit are made out of raku clay and glazes. Over the past four years, I have been able to create a multitude of different pieces including, a heritage piece, different types of tea bowls and teapots, human figures, realistic swimming goggles, and more. I am so fortunate to have been a part of the ceramics program at Ellis these past four years and I will cherish the lessons I’ve learned for the rest of my life. Working with clay provides me a safe and happy place to express myself in my own unique way. I hope you enjoy my art as much as I do!
