Ellis girls performing in the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra and Symphonette

Ellis girls are talented musicians. Three Ellis students will perform this season with the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestras, which presents two musical groups. The first is the Young Peoples Orchestra, a full symphonic orchestra open to students ages 14 through 18. The second is the Symphonette, a string orchestra for students ages 10 through 15, which is a training ground where young, talented string players to learn to play together in an ensemble.
Ellis 8th graders Emma Hoover ’17, joined the Symphonette as a first violin. Cellist Matilda "Tillie" LaBranche ’17 returns this year to the Symphonette as principal cellist. Ellis Upper School student Susan Hepburn ’14 returns this year to the Young People’s Orchestra where she will play violin.

Susan, Emma, and Tillie practice weekly with TRYPO and are coached each month by professional musicians including members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. The Orchestra and Symphonette each present three concerts per year. We’re excited for these girls and look forward to their performances!

Emma also spent the summer playing with the Performing Arts Institute of the Wyoming Seminary. Read about it here.
