Visit Ellis at Handmade Arcade

The Ellis School is excited to announce its participation in Pittsburgh’s annual Handmade Arcade on Saturday, December 2 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Ellis students and Visual Arts faculty members will run a family-drop in activity station in the Hands-on Handmade area to from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Attendees of all ages are encouraged to stop by Ellis’ “The Exquisite Corpse” workshop, where students and faculty will collaborate with guests to create unlikely characters from a collection of photographs, drawings, and mixed media. Inspired by a playful technique invented by surrealists, guests will create a portion of a person on their own and then mix, match, and swap their design with other guests to create unique, zany, and crowdsourced works of art.

In addition to the make-and-take activity in the Hands-on Handmade area, students from the Middle School Ellis Entrepreneurs club will sell their handmade crafts for the first time at the fair from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at table 181. All Ellis families are invited to meet at the Ellis table in the Hands-on Handmade area at 11 a.m. to shop, create, and support the School together during this joyful time of year.

This unique opportunity at Handmade Arcade will showcase Ellis students by empowering them to participate in their community as artists beyond the classroom. Students will learn the importance of taking an active role in community engagement while educating visitors on the power of making and hands-on learning activities. The Ellis School is excited to connect with artists from across the region at this year’s arcade.

Currently in its thirteenth year, Handmade Arcade is the first and largest independent craft fair in Pittsburgh. Vendors travel from all over the Pittsburgh region and the United States to sell their handmade, locally produced products. The fair attracts more than 9,000 visitors interested in supporting crafting and independent artists.

Please join us at the Ellis table to support our faculty and students at Handmade Arcade on December 2!
