2017 Middle School Awards Announced

The Ellis School honored grade 8 students at the 2017 Middle School Closing Assembly on Tuesday, June 6. Awardees from the Class of 2021 have shown a commitment to the highest ideals of scholarship, sportsmanship, and service throughout their time in the Middle School in specific subject areas.
The Ellis Middle School is pleased to announce the Class of 2021 winners of the following awards:

The following students also received the Ellis Scholars distinction, which is awarded to students who earn a 3.8 GPA during their years in the Middle School (beginning in grade 6): Genevieve Barge, Hannah Barsouk, Grace Coffelt, Annabel Everett, Kiera Harrell-Danks, Natalie Jasper, Hunter Kloss, Audrey Lyda, Tegan Poerio, Maevis Rosengart.

The Arlene Enriquez Science Award is bestowed upon a grade 8 student who has particularly demonstrated a high degree of interest, skill, and academic achievement in the sciences throughout her Ellis Middle School years.

Drs. Michelina Fato and Carl Snyderman endowed the Dr. Victoria Bernardis Jordan Latin Award in 2011 to honor Dr. Victoria Jordan, who retired at the close of the 2015-16 school year after 18 years of service at The Ellis School. During her tenure, Dr. Jordan taught scores of students the Latin language as well as the history of Ancient Rome. Through her passion and dedication, Dr. Jordan inspired Ellis graduates to continue to study the classics in college and beyond. Her legacy continues because of the difference she has made in the lives of all of her students.

The Junior Scholar Cup is awarded to the grade 8 student who has earned the highest academic average during her sixth, seventh and eighth grade years in the Ellis Middle School.

The Middle School Community Cup is presented to the grade 8 student who possesses a spirit of selflessness and the ability to make the community and world around her a better place. Throughout her middle school years, this student has been industrious, respectful, kind, cooperative and helpful to students and adults alike. She is a positive role model for her peers, and her actions demonstrate pride in the Ellis community.

Department prizes honor a grade 8 student who has excelled in a specific subject area. Recipients are selected by vote of members of each department.

The Vasser Sportsmanship Award is given to a grade 8 student, who during her years in the Middle School has exhibited the qualities of good sportsmanship. This award is named in honor of Dr. Beatrice Vasser, an Ellis teacher and coach of twenty-eight years, who valued and promoted these qualities.
