Culture in Context field trip

Culture in Context students once again hit the road to explore artwork in the Pittsburgh community. Drawing on tours developed by the Office of public Art, sophomores searched out artworks around Downtown with an eye toward understanding and shaping the experience these works create. Students also visited galleries across downtown to view the Cultural Trust's India in Focus collections.
India in Focus is a showcase features classic and contemporary styles in visual art, theater, dance, music, and more with work from globally-acclaimed artists, whose work is as diverse as India’s multi-faceted culture.

Culture in Context is a sophomore course which explores the role of visual culture in our world. With a strong grounding in Western art, students explore relationships between a variety of art forms and the ideas that shape them across history and place. Working in a collaborative setting, students interact with the wider community to understand the connections between expression, power, religion, philosophy, and technology.
