Trustees name Robin O. Newham Head of The Ellis School
Mrs. Robin O. Newham has been named Head of School for The Ellis School, effective immediately. Mrs. Newham, a member of the Ellis community for 32 years, had been serving as Interim Head of School since late September. In announcing the appointment, Susan Brownlee, Chair of the Ellis Board of Trustees, said, “It is our great pleasure to entrust Mrs. Newham with the leadership of The Ellis School. She brings a deep personal knowledge of the Ellis culture of academic excellence, innovation, rigor, and care for our students. She is greatly respected and much beloved by the School's students, parents, faculty, staff, and alumnae."
Mrs. Newham joined the faculty of The Ellis School in 1981 and taught studio arts and art history until 1998. During that time she initiated the School's Advanced Placement (AP) Studio Art program, which remains one of the true hallmarks of excellence at Ellis. Mrs. Newham also served as Grade 9 Dean in 1997-1998, and was named Director of the Upper School in the 1998-1999 school year. As Upper School Director, she oversaw the education of every girl in the division and was responsible for leadership and management of faculty and students in grades 9 to 12. Mrs. Newham also played an integral advisory role in the design of the Hillman Upper School Building, which was dedicated in September 2000.

I’m honored to join my predecessors over the past 98 years in upholding the School's tradition of excellence in educating girls and look forward to leading Ellis to its exciting future as we approach our Centennial. My immediate focus will be to work closely with the Board to improve communications with the entire Ellis community and to address the current enrollment, fundraising, and operational needs of the School.”
Mrs. Brownlee added, “All of us on the Board look forward to working with Robin to deepen engagement and connection with the Ellis parent and alumnae communities, to continue to build on the excellent Ellis experience, and to ensure a strong financial future for the School.”
