Senior Named WPIAL Scholar-Athlete

Tegan Poerio, Class of 2021, has been named a Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) Scholar-Athlete. One of twenty students honored in the region, Tegan earned one of the ten spots for female high-school athletes across WPIAL sections and classes. She will receive a $1,000 scholarship and a commemorative plaque in honor of her hard work and commitment to Ellis Athletics.
Throughout her high school career, Tegan has received numerous local and national accolades for her excellence on the field hockey pitch, including earning a spot on the Junior Olympic team, being recognized as one of the top 100 high school players in the country by Max Preps, being selected for the WC Eagles Shooting Stars and RCC/NCC Roster Teams, being named the 2019 Post Gazette Field Hockey Player of the Year, and being named to the WPIAL All-Star Team three years in a row. 

At Ellis, Tegan has broken every previously held scoring record, has been named the team’s most valuable player two years in a row, and also serves as the team’s captain. She was inducted into the Cum Laude Society her junior year. Following graduation, Tegan will continue her studies at Boston University and play Division I field hockey for the Terriers.
