“When I arrived at Ellis as a ninth grader, I wasn’t sure which opportunities to pursue,” says senior Avery Mills. “An email from my Upper School physics teacher about the robotics program caught my attention, and his encouragement to explore STEM inspired me to get involved. From my very first robotics meeting and physics class, he became more than a teacher—he became a mentor.
Throughout my time at Ellis, that mentorship has been constant. As my advisor, he’s helped me navigate challenges and advocate for myself academically. As a robotics coach, he’s shown me what it means to lead and support others, inspiring me to mentor younger students while continuing to grow my own skills. And in the classroom, he’s nurtured my passion for physics and engineering every step of the way.
