• Favorite subject:

  STEM class. “I like STEM because we get to explore, create, and do science. We read the book The Three Little Pigs and made model houses like the pigs. Next, we’re going to test them with the big bad blow dryer (it’s a hair dryer that’s dressed up like a wolf) to see if they can stand up.”

• How she builds confidence:

  In math class. "We do activities and math games to make it fun. Right now, we’re learning about 3D shapes—cones, spheres, triangles, prisms. I keep trying even if I don’t get the right answer and remember to ask for help when I need it."

• What she likes to do for fun:

  “I love bicycling. I just got a bicycle with gears and it’s blue, white, and black. My mom and I like to ride on trails together.”

• An appreciation for art:

  “I love to create things. Sometimes I make abstract art. But other times I make portraits and realistic art. My favorite artist is Georgia O’Keeffe. She traveled the world and made art. Last year, we made watercolor paintings of flowers that were inspired by her.”

• What she likes about Ellis:

  “I love learning new things and meeting new people. I feel like I can do anything and be my own person here. I don’t have to be like anyone else.”
