National Girls & Women in Sports Day at Ellis

In honor of National Girls & Women in Sports Day, students, faculty, and alumnae came together for a powerful celebration of athleticism, leadership, and the enduring impact of women in sports.
The highlight of the day was a dynamic panel discussion featuring three extraordinary Ellis Athletic Hall of Fame inductees: Sara HANEY Stroud ’04, Dr. Rebekah Hughey ’94, and the legendary Coach Genny “Coach K” Kozusko.

Held for Upper and Middle School students, the panel offered an inspiring look into the athletes’ experiences both on and off the field. Panelists reflected on the role sports played in shaping their identities, building resilience, and teaching them how to lead with confidence and courage.

Sara shared how her time on the Ellis field hockey team sparked a lifelong passion that carried her through a collegiate career and now back to Ellis as a coach and parent. Rebekah spoke about the lessons of perseverance and focus that took her into a career in wellness and leadership. And Coach K inspired students with stories from her decades of coaching and mentoring Ellis athletes.

Their collective message was clear: Sports are not just about competition—they’re about connection, confidence, and carving out space for girls and women to thrive.

Thank you to all who joined us in honoring this important day. As we continue to celebrate our rich history in athletics, we look forward to championing the next generation of Ellis athletes and leaders, both on and off the court, in the classroom, and beyond.
