  • Assistant Group Supervisor - Fifth Avenue Family Child Care

    Fifth Avenue Family Child Care is a parent-led co-op, housed on The Ellis School's campus for over 25 years. We are looking for a dynamic caregiver with experience working with infants to preschool-aged children to join our team full time, starting immediately.

    We value creativity, child-led exploration, patience, reliability, and diversity. Providing a safe and enriching environment for play-based learning is a vital aspect of the position. Also included in the responsibilities for this role are: changing diapers, assistance with toilet learning, light food prep, meal assistance, light cleaning, and day-to-day communication with parents. This position is not an Ellis faculty or staff position. The employer is Fifth Avenue Family Child Care.

    Our hours of operation are Monday–Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. during the school year, through June 7, 2019. Candidate must be available to work during these hours and must possess or obtain FBI, Act 33/34 clearances. High school diploma/GED is required with two years of experience working with children. This is an hourly position paying between $11 and $13 per hour, depending on experience.   • Upper School History Instructor

    The Ellis School, the only pre-kindergarten to grade 12 independent day school for girls in Pittsburgh, PA, has an opening for a part-time Upper School History Teacher beginning in August 2019. Responsibilities will include teaching two sections of Upper School History.

    Qualifications:
    A bachelor’s degree in History, or the equivalent, is required; a master’s degree is preferred. We seek a passionate teacher who is interested in engaging students in analytical interpretations and who is open to interdisciplinary, collaborative, and project-based approaches. The ability to work with students to develop analytical thinking and clear, effective writing is essential. Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 3-5 years of teaching experience and the ability to teach a wide variety of history classes, including surveys, AP offerings, and advanced electives. They will possess a commitment to using innovative pedagogical practices and technology to enhance instruction, as well as enthusiasm about all-girls education. In addition, preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated enthusiasm for working with and teaching adolescents, a strong sense of school community and teamwork, and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.   • Upper School Mathematics Instructor

    The Ellis School, the only pre-kindergarten to grade 12 independent all-girls day school in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking a full-time Upper School Mathematics instructor beginning in August 2019. Responsibilities include teaching five sections of high school mathematics and advising eight to ten students.
     
    Qualifications:
    Undergraduate studies in mathematics or a related field are required. Ideal candidates will have a minimum of three to five years of teaching experience and the ability to teach a wide range of mathematics courses including Statistics and Advanced Placement Calculus. They will possess a commitment to using innovative pedagogical practices and technology to enhance instruction, as well as enthusiasm about all-girls education. In addition, preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated enthusiasm for working with and teaching adolescents, a strong sense of school community and teamwork, and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.   • Athletics Coaches

    The Ellis School seeks experienced candidates for coaching positions. These positions will be responsible for developing the athletic program and players under the direction of the Athletic Director.
     
    The Successful Candidate Will Possess:
    • Experience teaching applicable skills and strategies that apply to the skill level of the players.
    • Proven ability to exemplify the highest standard of leadership, sportsmanship, and respect.
    • Ability to attend all team practices and competitions.
    • Knowledge of appropriate safety measures to ensure the well being of players.
    • CPR/First Aid certification (preferred)
