Ellis Students Compete in Canadian Crew Competition

Ready to row in their double scull boat, Ellis students Abby Hong, Class of 2019, and Audrey Lyda, Class of 2021, were eager to participate with 2,293 athletes from 140 rowing clubs across the world at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta August 8-13, 2017. Their main goal was to improve their impressive results from the USRowing Youth National Rowing Championship this past June where this duo placed 9th among 150 rowing clubs competing from around the country.
Abby and Audrey easily won their heat to advance to the semifinals in Ontario, Canada, a huge accomplishment in itself, rowing against the most elite athletes from around the world. Staying focused and determined, the girls took first place in the semifinals! Such an amazing tribute to their teamwork and talent as extraordinary rowers for their age.

The finals brought out their inner strength as this duo challenged the first place winners the entire race. Abby and Audrey proudly crossed the line in second place, barely three seconds behind the leading boat.

Words cannot describe the pride our coaches and teammates at Steel City have for Abby and Audrey. They are not only outstanding rowing athletes, they continuously present themselves as empowering young women proving that diligence leads to remarkable feats.
