Two Ellis alumnae are 40 Under 40

Congratulations to Ellis alumnae Katie O’Malley ‘02 and Lauren Byrne ‘02 for making Pittsburgh Magazine’s 40 Under 40 list! Honorees are chosen based on their professional and personal accomplishments, combined with their dedication to making a difference in the Pittsburgh region.
Katie serves as Assistant Communications Manager for Mayor Bill Peduto, where she manages daily communications for the Mayor’s Office. She’s coordinated several events for the city, including the Marriage Equality Ceremony, the World Cup Watch Party, the funeral for former Mayor Sophie Masloff and the “Undercover Boss” episode featuring Mayor Peduto. Katie also serves as a gala committee member for the Pittsburgh Kids Foundation and a volunteer for Team Tassy, a nonprofit who works towards eliminating poverty.

Lauren is currently working as the Executive Director of Lawrenceville United, a resident-driven, community-based nonprofit working towards improving the quality of life for Lawrenceville residents. Lauren is following in the footsteps of her grandmother, legendary community organizer Aggie Brose. Both her home and work space were recently vandalized due to her position on high-profile neighborhood issues; however; Lauren isn’t giving up. She continues to work towards improving Lawrenceville.
