Congratulations to math teacher Anne Marie Adler

Ellis teachers are exceptional. Math teacher Anne Marie Adler learned recently that she was recertified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, which works to advance the quality of teaching and learning by maintaining high and rigorous standards. The National Board commended Ms. Adler, noting that her accomplishment is a strong reflection of her continued dedication to her students and the profession as an educator.
Ms. Adler has taught mathematics at Ellis since 2005, teaching such classes as AP Calculus AB, Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus. She also mentors Ellis students as advisor to Upper School Student Council, and has served as 10th grade dean, 11th grade dean, lead homeroom teacher, and as a member of the Admission Committee. In 2008 she took part in NASA Space Camp for teachers, and was one of only 25 teachers nationally chosen for a NASA educator workshop at Stennis Space Center where she saw tests of the space shuttle booster rockets.

Ms. Adler was first awarded National Board certification in 2004 for excellence in mathematics with a concentration in adolescence and young adulthood. She earned her Master of Teaching in secondary mathematics education with an emphasis on using technology in May 1994 from the University of Virginia, from which she also received a BA in mathematics.

Prior to Ellis, Ms. Adler taught secondary math at Albemarle High School in Charlottesville, VA, where she held numerous leadership positions including Faculty Advisory Committee Chair, Technology Mentor for fellow teachers and author and editor of the Albemarle County Algebra II  curriculum and  mid-year formative assessment.

She has been a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics from 1993 to the present. She also provided advanced-life medical support and emergency medical treatment as a volunteer with the Western Albemarle Rescue Squad from 1998-2005.

Please join us in congratulating Anne Marie Adler on this extraordinary accomplishment!
