Ellis students kick off City Council meeting

Ellis seniors and student council officers Julia DiPietro, Eliza Jimenez, Ellie Muse, and Nepheli Raptis had a taste of real city government today when they opened the March 4, 2014 City of Pittsburgh Council meeting downtown. The girls led the formal recitation of the pledge and were introduced in City Council chambers. The girls, who were guests of City Councilman Dan Gilman, also met City Council members Corey O'Connor and Darlene Harris.
Prior to the meeting, the Ellis contingent received a tour of the City Council offices, including glimpse into the historic books and records housed in the City Council archive.

Many thanks to Councilman Gilman who invited the Ellis students to recite the pledge; to Lara Sullivan, Legislative Assistant to Councilman Gilman, for showing us the ropes; and to Deputy City Clerk Mary Beth Doheny for the tour of the archives and for graciously pointing out historic details in the Council chamber.
