The Ellis STEAM Powered Girls Middle School robotics team has done it again! The team once again took first place in the Research category at this past Saturday’s regional competition. Thanks to their great work, the team will compete in the regional Grand Championship on February 22.
The team’s Research challenge focused on ways that “Hot Shot” firefighters who fight wild fires in the most dangerous conditions could use technology to use communication equipment even when wearing heavy protective gloves and equipment. The team, led by Ellis faculty members Dr. Bambi Brewer, Mr. Joshmin Ray, and Dr. Lisa Abel-Palmieri, is comprised of 10 Ellis students in grades 5 to 8 who presented their ideas to the judges using visual aids, slides, and computer programs.
The girls will present their research project to Lisa Epps, a Pittsburgh fire-fighter, when she visits Ellis on January 27, and all Ellis Middle School girls are welcome to attend the meeting with Firefighter Epps.
If you're interested in exploring Ellis for your daughter, let's connect! Request information about enrollment, attend one of our upcoming events, or hear about Ellis from those who know it best: our students.
