Ellis Robotics team wins 1st place

Congratulations to the Ellis Middle School FIRST Lego League Team, the STEAM Powered Girls! At the Regional competition this past Saturday, the team won first place in the Research category. They also won an honorable mention in the Programming category.
The Research challenge was to describe an idea to help individuals prepare, stay safe, or rebuild after a natural disaster. The team, led by Ellis faculty members Dr. Bambi Brewer, Mr. Joshmin Ray, and Dr. Lisa Abel-Palmieri, is comprised of 10 Ellis students in grades 5 to 8, who responded to the Research Challenge with an idea to improve communication devices in order to protect firefighters battling wildfires. The STEAM Powered Girls presented their ideas to the judges using visual aids, slides, and computer programs.

This win qualifies the girls to compete in the regional Grand Championship on February 22. The girls will also compete in another regional competition on January 11.
