Jamie Schiff has been appointed Ellis’ next Head of Lower School, effective July 1, 2022.
“Jamie stood out in a national pool of highly qualified candidates and received rave reviews during her finalist visit in March,” says Head of School Macon Finley. “The Ellis students, parents, faculty, and staff Jamie interacted with were impressed by her engaging and warm personality, intelligence, and professionalism, as well as her deep knowledge of and commitment to all-girls education.”
Jamie comes to Ellis from Columbus School for Girls (CSG) in Columbus, Ohio, where she has served since 2017 as Division Director for the Program for Young Children, a division that serves girls ages 3–6. While at CSG, Jamie has been a key member of the school leadership team and has worked on curriculum development, faculty mentoring and evaluation, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
“Jamie brings a wealth of expertise in child development and curriculum,” shares Ms. Finley, “and she is highly skilled in developing an authentic and inclusive sense of community and connection among diverse students, parents, faculty, and staff. Her sense of vision about what makes for an outstanding lower school experience for girls and their families will be a true asset to the Ellis community.”
Jamie earned an M.A. in Education from Jacksonville University and a Ph.D. in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from The Ohio State University. She has also held faculty positions in the Schools of Education at Capital University, Antioch University, and The Ohio State University, teaching a variety of courses in their Schools of Education and mentoring and supervising pre-service teachers.
“My family and I are so excited to be returning to our roots in Pittsburgh,” Jamie says. “I couldn't be more thrilled to be joining the Ellis Lower School and look forward to learning, growing, and shaking the world.”
