Four Ellis Students Compete in Regional Science Fair
On March 29 and 30 four Ellis students from the Middle and Upper Schools competed at the Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair (PRSEF). To prepare for the competition, students had to prepare and execute a project while using the scientific method. At the fair, they presented their research and findings to a panel of judges. All four students placed in at least one category in the competition. Read about their projects, placements, and awards below:
Viola Haggerty, Class of 2023 - "How Does Temperature Affect Bacterial Growth" won 3rd place in Intermediate Medicine, Health, and Microbiology Division
Eleanor Barth-Wu, Class of 2022 - "Formaldehyde Production in E-Liquid Degradation" won 1st place in Senior Chemistry Division and a special award, the Carnegie Science Center Award
Erika Rispoli, Class of 2022 - "Modeling Bone Tissue Growth" won 4th place award in Senior Medicine, Health, and Microbiology Division and won the Society for Women in Engineering Award
Shivani Watson, Class of 2022 - "Catalytic Oxidation of Endocrine Disrupting Compounds Using TAMLs" in Senior Chemistry Division won five Sponsor Awards:
American Chemical Society
Ricoh USA
Michael Baker International
Society for Analytical Chemists
