Empty Bowls Dinner

Rodef Shalom Congregation, 4905 Fifth Ave in Oakland
The annual Empty Bowls Dinner serves up a simple meal of soup and bread as a reminder that too many people throughout our region are facing hunger. Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Just Harvest will co-host the 21st Empty Bowls Dinner from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Rodef Shalom Congregation.

Attendees will begin by choosing a ceramic bowl to take home from the 1,200-1,500 bowls provided by local amateur and professional potters. Once again, Ellis Clay students donated more than 60 bowls for this event which are identified by "Ellis" on the bottom.

Nearly three dozen restaurants and caterers donate bread and several hundred gallons of soup for the event, and the soup is served by local celebrities, TV and radio personalities, and elected officials.

Empty Bowls is also known for its family-friendly atmosphere with children’s activities presented by the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, a bake sale, entertainment, silent auction of ceramic art and celebrity-autographed bowls and soup-to-go.

Tickets are $22 when purchased in advance through Showclix or by calling 888-718-4253. Tickets will be available at the door for $25. Proceeds benefit Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Just Harvest.
