Middle School Mathematics

The Middle School math curriculum is a challenging program with the majority of students completing Algebra 1 by the end of grade 8. Mathematics courses are ability grouped beginning in grade 6. Students who qualify may participate in an accelerated program. Placements are made on recommendation of the Mathematics Department after careful review of student achievement, work ethic, mathematical and emotional maturity, standardized test scores, and placement tests. Students in accelerated courses are required to meet all course requirements, including taking term tests and final exams.

Typical math sequence: Mathematics Grade 5, Mathematics Grade 6, Pre-Algebra, and either Introduction to Algebra or Algebra I

Typical Accelerated math sequence: Mathematics Grade 5, Pre-Algebra (with Grade 6 work completed over summer), Algebra I, and Geometry
