Meet Nadia

Grade 9

Aspiring songstress.
Lively lyricist.
Electric guitarist.

Her talents are in perfect harmony.

For ninth grader Nadia, music has always struck a chord. A soulful singer and songwriter, Nadia expresses herself through melodies and communicates her experiences through original lyrics. At Ellis, she raises her voice alongside members of the Glee Club and the Upper School musical cast, and in support of her peers as vice president of her class.
Outside of Ellis, she can be found jamming on her electric guitar and mixing her own music in her at-home studio space. Nadia may be new to Ellis this year, but her heart and soul are sure to make a lasting impression.

A spotlight on Nadia's Ellis experience

List of 6 items.

  • Campus connections:

Nadia joined the Glee Club and the cast of the Upper School musical this year. “Everyone is so passionate about music and performing here, which has been really refreshing. I was the Sugar Plum Fairy and Teen Fiona in Shrek The Musical. In Glee Club, we are always working on different harmonies and making real music.”
  • On her horizon:

Mastering the electric guitar. “I’m taking lessons now. I really wanted to learn because the sound is so amazing. I want to learn how to play The Beach Boys because their sound is so fun and recognizable. Right now I’m working on 'Good Vibrations.'”
  • How she raises her voice:

Through singing and songwriting. “My dad was in an R&B group in the early 2000s and he taught me how to formulate a song with a verse, a hook, a bridge. I’ve been writing songs since I was about nine years old, and now I write all the time. I'm always singing and recording. Right now, I’m trying to figure out how to do all of the technical production work by myself.”
  • When she grows up:

She wants to be an R&B artist. "My main goal is music. I want to build up my material so that I have things to put out there. I want to reach as many people as possible.”
  • How she wants to shake the world:

Through her music. "Music is my heart and soul. I use it to communicate and to express how I’m feeling. So I hope that my music is received by people who can relate to it and that it helps validate their feelings.”
  • Favorite subject:

English. “I like to read and write. I am a songwriter so I’ve always enjoyed writing. Writing is therapeutic for me—it’s an outlet to express myself. We dive so deep into the novels we read and then discuss them as a class, so I think that’s what makes it so fun.”
