Reunion Weekend 2023: A Trip Down Memory Lane

Ellis alumnae returned to campus to reconnect and relive precious memories on October 6 and 7 for Reunion Weekend 2023.
Friday's events included campus tours and a conversation with New York Times bestselling author Marie Benedict led by alumna Kristen SOBEL ’05 and Ellis seniors Nadia Commodore and Sophia Sellner. Members of the Class of 1958 organized a field trip to Johnstown inspired by their reading of Steel City: A Story of Pittsburgh by William J. Miller, Jr. Over 30 alumnae joined current families for the Fall Festival hosted by the Ellis Parent Association, which featured face painters, a bounce house, games and activities, and tasty treats. A heartwarming luncheon provided an opportunity for generations of Ellisians to come together, honor our 2023 Sarah Frazer Ellis Awardee, Shanan GUINN '93, and enjoy a performance by the Ellis Glee Club.

Friday's luncheon also celebrated Ellis milestone classes ending in 3s and 8s, including the Class of 1973. In honor of their 50th reunion, the 1973 graduates wanted to raise more money for Ellis than any class before them collectively. Carol OSTROW '73 generously offered a match to her classmates to achieve this goal: a gift of $50,000 in honor of their 50th reunion. In just a few short weeks, Carol and her classmates raised just over $80,000, and with the school year just beginning, the Class of 1973 is confident they will reach the full match and raise $100,000. This outstanding contribution has not only left a profound impact on Ellis but has also set a high bar for future classes to aspire.

The Reunion Weekend fun continued into Saturday, when alumnae enjoyed a tailgate lunch as they cheered on the Ellis varsity soccer team during their match against Riverview High School. The afternoon also included a visit to the Ellis robotics team's practice led by Upper School Science Teacher Sam Rauhala and a superb art class led by Visual Arts Teachers Helena Elko and Peter Barbor during which alumnae molded clay into beautiful fall decor pieces. The day concluded with an upbeat evening cocktail reception featuring favorite tunes from the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Thank you to everyone who participated in Reunion Weekend 2023. We look forward to next year's events!
