Ellis Students Celebrate Rome Day

Ellis 5th graders took part in an annual celebration of Rome on Thursday, April 15. Through this day-long celebration, students came to more fully understand the daily lives, history, and culture of ancient Rome, which the students have been exploring in history, literature, world language, and art classes. Rome Day activities included public speaking, engineering wooden arches and catapults and catapult launching contest, racing chariots on the Ellis field, and dressing in traditional Roman togas.
Students also enjoyed a Roman Feast of cheese, fruit, and grape juice/fruit punch “wine.“ Middle School Director Michelle Rust presided as Emperor and offered a Roman prayer before the meal. Middle School Faculty oversaw the games and the feast.
