Ellis to offer Latin I Online next year

Ellis is pleased to announce that Latin I will be available as an online course beginning in the 2014-2015 school year. It will be the School's first entirely online course offering. Rising 9th to 12th graders may take Latin I online either to fulfill their grade 9 language requirement or as a second language independent study. The course is being developed by Ellis Latin teacher Dr. Vicky Jordan.
Dr. Jordan is one of only four people in the United States selected this year by the College Board to oversee the grading of the national AP Latin Exams. Her online course will be tailored specifically to the Ellis Latin curriculum. Students studying Latin 1 online will be supported by in-house Latin teachers. There will be no additional charge for taking this course.

The course will cover many linguistic aspects of Latin, and students will develop a good basis for reading authentic Latin literature. We will also focus on expanding the students’ English vocabulary through studying Latin word roots. Our studies will include an investigation of Roman culture and history, and the indebtedness of our world to Roman ideas of government, literature, the arts, medicine, and science.

The Online Latin 1 course is a regular Ellis course with normal credit. Students may select Latin 1 as their primary World Language or as their second World Language. To view a demo of the course, Ellis students should contact Ellis Latin teacher Dr. Vicky Jordan.
