Field Hockey Team Earns Postseason Accolades

The Ellis Varsity Field Hockey Team has been recognized by the Pennsylvania High School Field Hockey Coaches Association (PHSFHCA) and the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) for their success on and off the field during the 2018 season.
The team was celebrated for their excellence in the classroom with the PHSFHCA GPA Award for having an accumulative team GPA of 3.69. The PHSFHCA also named Tegan Poerio, Class of 2021, to the second team All-State squad, an honor that recognizes her as one of the top 50 field hockey players in Section A in Pennsylvania.

Four Ellis field hockey players also earned individual postseason honors in recognition of their leadership and athleticism this season. Leah Ewers, Class of 2019, Erica Davis, Class of 2019, and Tegan Poerio, Class of 2021, were named to the WPIAL First Team for Division II and Genna Barge, Class of 2021, was named to the Second Team.

In celebration of these accolades, Amanda Rose, Head Varsity Field Hockey Coach, shared her perspective on the team’s postseason awards. “Coach Liz and I are extremely excited that the girls have been recognized for their dedication to both field hockey and academics. We have a tough schedule and we hold the girls to certain expectations on and off the field,” she said. “There’s no secret that being a student-athlete is hard work and takes outstanding time management and balancing skills, but with that hard work comes a myriad of positive benefits. We are so proud of their achievements this year.”
