Ellis Students Spearhead Hurricane Relief Efforts

In response to the devastation of recent hurricanes in the United States, Ellis students are working together to help victims of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. Each division has planned programming to aid with relief efforts and is pitching in to help our neighbors in the South.
Lower School
The Lower School is partnering with Bammel Elementary School in Houston, Texas, the former school of a Lower School family and one of the many schools affected by Hurricane Harvey, for a school supply drive. Lower School students will collect school supplies for Bammel Elementary from Friday, September 15 to Friday, September 29, 2017.

Suggested donations by grade include:
  • Pre-kindergarten: 24-count boxes of crayons
  • Kindergarten: 2-inch erasers
  • Grade 1: unsharpened pencils
  • Grade 2: 10-count packs of markers
  • Grade 3: new writing pads or loose-leaf paper
  • Grade 4: child-safe scissors
All school supplies donation will be accepted. If you would like to make a donation, blue collection bins are located in the Lower School lobby.

Middle School
The Middle School Guild Community Service Club and Student Council are hosting a fundraiser with the Humble ISD Education Foundation, which supports school districts in Houston that experienced damage. Students in the Global Citizenship elective will also research hurricanes and their impact and then create infographics to raise awareness for the fundraiser. Proceeds from the Middle School operetta, Once On An Island, will also be sent to a charitable organization aiding victims in the Caribbean.

Upper School
From Wednesday, September 6 to Friday, September 22, the Guild Community Service Club is hosting a fundraiser for the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. The money will go directly to GlobalGiving, the largest global crowdfunding community connecting nonprofits, donors, and companies in nearly every country. Grades 9 through 12 are encouraged to donate on behalf of their grade, and the grade who donates the most money will receive snack provided by the Guild Community Service Club. If you would like to make a donation, collection bins are located outside of the Upper School office.
