The Ellis School hosted the 2017 Fine Arts Festival, Make It!, on Sunday, April 30 in celebration of the School’s fine arts program. An unforgettable day for the Ellis community, the biennial festival offered hands-on workshops, student art, musical performances, make-and-take activities, food trucks, and plenty of family fun.
The festival took place across Ellis’ Shadyside campus and showcased the impressive artwork from Lower, Middle, and Upper School students. From ceramics, to photography and mixed media art, the incredible products of students’ artistic efforts were on full display as hundreds of pieces decked the Ellis halls.
In addition to art, attendees were treated to captivating musical performances and faculty and student-led workshops. While enjoying the musical and artistic talents of Ellis girls, the crowd of over 300 attendees was treated to delicious festival fare from food trucks: PGH Crepes, The Coop, and Oh My Grill. Lined along the front entrance, the food trucks offered delicious fresh fruit and nutella laden crepes, gooey and perfectly toasted grilled cheese, and scrumptiously sinful chicken and waffles to the Ellis community.
Reflecting on the event, Ellis’ Chair of the Performing and Visual Arts Department Sara Sturdevant said, “the Fine Arts Festival is a true community building event that proves how art can bring people together. Our commitment to the finest in art education allows students and faculty to explore new possibilities, changing technologies, and opportunities afforded by the arts community in Pittsburgh.”
The 2017 Fine Arts Festival was a beautiful day full of art, spectacle, and sound for the Ellis community. Mrs. Sturdevant adds, “ Ellis gives faculty and students the time and space to support the arts to this caliber. We make room for it because we believe that art truly shapes how girls write, perform, and thrive.”
Please join us in congratulating the student artists, musicians, and makers for their stellar pieces and performances. Ellis looks forward to seeing the local community at the next Fine Arts Festival in 2019!
