Moving onto the next chapter

Looking back on this past year as Lower School Interim Head, my mind is flooded with tons of great memories. It’s been a very rich year full of learning and growing. I’ve enjoyed watching our youngest learners grasp the concepts upon which they will build their love of learning. I couldn’t be more proud of our Lower School girls for all of their fundraising efforts to support causes in the community. I am filled with joy when I see girls work together with their buddy class on a project and in mixed class groups most recently during our Poem in Your Pocket celebration. I’m impressed by the leadership grade 4 students have shown whether on stage as leads of the winter musical Seussical Kids or during their Capstone Wax Museum presentations.
It is hard to believe that we are about to wrap up the 2016–2017 school year and enjoy some well deserved time off before we prepare for next school year. I cannot wait to see the current pre-kindergarten Tigers come to school on Tuesday, August 29 in their uniforms for the first time and watch as the current fourth graders walk past our doors on their way to Middle School. It is hard to believe how much growth and learning has occurred this year, how much your daughters have grown, and how we have come together as a community to celebrate each other.

On Friday, May 26 your daughters will have a chance to visit next year’s classrooms. This is an opportunity for students to get to know their new teachers. Grade 4 students will remain in the auditorium with me for one final lower school assembly. They will be joined by Amy Sidari, Grade Five Dean, and the current fifth grade student council officers for a question and answer session about Middle School. As we prepare students for next year, no one can help them transition to middle school more than the current fifth graders.

I want to invite you to a parent coffee on Wednesday, May 24 at 8:00 a.m. to have time for a conversation about looking towards next year. We will have time to discuss the recently announced staffing changes, talk about changes to the Lower School schedule and what to do over the summer to keep your daughter’s minds engaged. I hope you can join me.
