How an all-girls education prepares girls to succeed in college

You have completed your exams, turned in your final papers, and received your grades for the semester. Your name was called and you happily walked across the stage to receive your high school diploma. You are now preparing for the next big adventure in your life: attending college.
As someone who was in your shoes five years ago, I know the experience is a mix of emotions ranging from pure joy about pursuing your education to anxiety about leaving the comforts of the familiar to go to college in a new city or state. But as an alumna of an all-girls school, you are more than prepared to jump into this next chapter.

Attending an all-girls school may not seem like a life-altering decision, but as soon as you head into the “real world,” you’ll know it is one. Students who attend an all-girls school consistently rank their college preparedness above their peers. This is because the all-girls environment encourages girls to adopt effective time management skills, develop confidence, overcome particularly challenging subjects, and learn to pursue their passions.

As an alumna of The Ellis School, challenging academic programs and classes didn’t begin in college, they began at Ellis.

All-girls schools teach girls how to manage their time wisely.
Between academics, athletics, clubs, and other extracurricular activities, Ellis girls learn to balance their demanding schedules while maintaining good grades. Challenging academic programs and classes allow students to begin developing effective time management skills at an early age. By the time Ellis girls enter college, they are more prepared than their peers to successfully manage homework, studying, and other activities.

All-girls schools empower girls to be confident, young women.
Without the added pressure or distraction of boys in the classroom, at Ellis, girls are encouraged to speak up and say what is on their minds. In a place where girls lead every discussion, captain every team, and sit at the head every class, Ellis girls are welcomed and encouraged by faculty and their peers to share their thoughts, opinions, and interpretations during class.

All-girls schools teach girls to overcome challenging subjects.
At Ellis, girls are empowered to try new things. Ellis girls are taught from a young age that they are capable of doing anything and by harnessing that power, they turn into fearless, capable women. Even if it’s simply moving your grade from a C to a B or a B to an A, girls are encouraged to meet one-on-one with faculty or peers to seek out the support they need to be successful.

All-girls schools teach girls to pursue their passions and interests.
Whether it’s technology, athletics, or creative arts, Ellis inspires every girl to pursue her particular interests and unlock her potential. With support and encouragement from faculty, Ellis girls learn to think beyond the classroom and integrate their interests into everyday academic work. Throughout high school and college, Ellis girls are willing to take risks and to find and pursue their passions.
