Creative Communication sponsors the youth essay contest to offer a creative outlet that encourages students to use their imagination and express themselves through the written word. Creative Communication awards thousands of dollars in supplies to schools each year to support and inspire writing excellence in classrooms.

At Ellis, Middle School English courses prepare students to be independent readers and writers while instilling the value and joy of literature. Faculty members encourage students to express themselves on the page to boost creativity and build confidence in their own ideas.

Congratulations, Leila!

Waterfall by Leila Adelstein

Trillions of droplets rushed down their rocky path. When approaching the bottom, they turned into a rainbow mist. While staring at the powerful waterfall, I recited the alphabet to pass the time, and I quickly shifted my eyes to the boulders and watched them waltz. The illusion was mesmerizing, like watching an earthquake. Perched on the metal balcony to enjoy the view, I felt the cool mist peck my warm cheek. I felt small and isolated staring at the prodigious waterfall, which rose above my head like a mammoth. Soon after that, I left the plummeting waterfall. I wanted to stay, but we needed to leave. The long voyage up the three hundred sixty steps felt like climbing a snow-peaked mountain. I guzzled my ice cold water in an instant just before I trudged up ten steep steps. After what felt like five hours, we reached the top. “Finally!”  I exclaimed. I felt like a hot dog on a grill with the sizzling sun on my shoulders, but at the same time exhilarated and energized about my trip to the waterfall. What an exciting and beautiful journey to the Yellowstone Grand Canyon!
