Mini-Maker Faire in Grade 4

On Tuesday, October 11, 2016, The Ellis School hosted a Mini-Maker Faire for grade 4 students. Organized by Kim Mechling, Lower School science teacher and technology integration coordinator, experts were brought in to run four workshops where students were introduced to various tech tools.
Dr. Bambi Brewer, a curriculum designer at Birdbrain and the maker of Hummingbird Robotics Kit, helped students create and improve the movement of their robots.

Students also worked with Sarah Ceurvorst to learn how to use a vinyl cutter. Each girl then designed and cut a personal sticker to take home.

Students learned to take photos using a blue screen with the help of Tim Howard, the Director of Educational Technology at Ellis.

Finally, Ms. Mechling taught the girls about podcasting. With guidance, the girls will use this knowledge to create a weekly Lower School podcast to be sent to parents.
