Art Faculty Work on Exhibit

The work of clay teacher Ceil Sturdevant is currently on display at The Gallery at Penn College. To honor the gallery’s tenth anniversary, the Take Ten exhibit features 25 past artists and their new work including mixed media, mosaic, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, fiber art, instillation, ceramics, and digital media. Ceil’s series, Interdependent Balancing Act, features works of clay that explore the relationships and struggle of survival among humans, nature, and animals. “My work explores the need for respect of this interdependent web we live in, and in the importance humans have to start a change toward a respectful balance,” she says.
Ceil Sturdevant is a figurative sculptor who has exhibited her work throughout the Eastern United States and internationally. She has a studio in Pittsburgh and has taught ceramic art since 1981 at The Ellis School. Ceil's ceramic sculptures have been featured in "Studio Potter", "Ceramic Monthly", "American Craft", "Clay Times." She has been published in two books, The Extruder Book and 500 Figures: Sculptors Explore The Figurative Form by Lark Books.

The Take Ten exhibit will be open August 25 to October 9, with an opening reception held on August 30 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at The Gallery at Penn College in Williamsport, PA.
