Faculty honored by Pitt Center for International Studies

Kindergarten teachers Betsy Gianakas and Caroline Lynett were recently honored at the University of Pittsburgh’s University Center for International Studies’ Teacher Forum on Internationalizing the K-12 Classroom for their educator presentation Building Bangalore.  This interdisciplinary unit related to the school wide global focus on India at Ellis this year. Students first reflected about their own culture then transferring this focus to the culture of India. The project focused on the traffic challenges in Bangalore, India.
In the role of city planners, architects, and environmentalists, students built a model of the city, explored the miniature model through many hands-on activities and examined possible ways to improve traffic flow.
