Ellis students win 80 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

Once again, Ellis students have had an incredible showing at the regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, demonstrating the power of the Ellis Visual Arts Department to support exceptionally talented art students. 59 Ellis students in grades 7 - 12 captured 80 awards: 18 Gold Keys, 23 Silver Keys, and 38 Honorable Mentions. Gold Key entries are automatically sent for jurying at the national level in New York City.

Gold Key and Silver Key work is on view February 6 through February 20 in the Visionary Instincts exhibition at CCAC North Campus. Students and families are encouraged to attend the closing celebration and award ceremony on February 20. The closing celebration opens at 12:30 p.m. with music entertainment and refreshments. The Award Ceremony begins at 2:00 p.m. in the campus gymnasium following the closing celebration.   

About the Awards: The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in the U.S., and the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers. Since 1923, the Scholastic Awards have recognized the exceptional vision of our nation’s youth, and we provide a singular opportunity for students to be noticed for their creative talents. Previous recipients include Andy Warhol, Philip Pearlstein, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Joyce Carol Oates, and Richard Avedon.
