On Saturday, November 14th, Annika Sandholm, class of 2026, participated in the 2015 Future Champions Chess Tournament at the Irish Center of Pittsburgh. The Ellis second grader received a Top Unrated Trophy during the tournament awards ceremony because of her wins throughout the day. This was her first chess trophy and second time competing. Annika is not only a rated chess player, a member of the United States Chess Federation, and an official chess competitor, but she is also taking on the extra challenge of playing a male-dominated sport.
