Design thinking challenge for Culture in Context

Students from Culture in Context, the sophomore phase of the Integrative Studies Program, create and present prototypes of tools for improving the experience of looking at and interacting with public art in Oakland. After visiting public art sites in Oakland, students discussed a variety of approaches with Lower School Interim Art Teacher Sarah Ceurvorst and then formed their own responses as part of a design thinking challenge. Responses ranged from "aRtPod", a temporary enclosure that would create a private study space around art to the "DuoLingBoard" that would facilitate communication about art for speakers of a variety of languages.
This prototyping process is part of a year long design challenge to improve, change and question how we connect with art in Pittsburgh.
