Ellis to host national video game workshop for girls

As part of its commitment to excellence in STEM education, the Learning Innovation Institute at The Ellis School will host a free special video game challenge workshop just for girls on Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (pizza lunch is included). The workshop is part of the National STEM Video Game Challenge, a nationwide game design competition for students in grades 5 to 12. Register for the Ellis workshop here. The deadline to submit original games is March 30, 2015.
The Challenge Program includes game design workshops for youth, educators and parents in communities across the country, an exciting Regional Spotlight Program across the greater Pittsburgh area, and a series of workshops to explore the power of intergenerational play and design.

How to Submit Games

Students in grades 5-12 must register online at www.stemchallenge.org to submit games they've designed. Individuals and teams of up to 4 students may submit games no later than March 30 made with:
  • Gamestar Mechanic
  • GameMaker
  • Unity
  • Scratch
  • Games made with any tool (Open Platform)
  • Written game design documents
The 2014-15 National STEM Video Game Challenge is presented by The Smithsonian in partnership with the Joan Ganz Cooney Center and E-Line Media. The Challenge is made possible through the generous ongoing support of its Founding Sponsor, Entertainment Software Association. Additional program support is provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Grable Foundation, AARP, and Mentor Up.
