Ellis students to donate school supplies

At Ellis, students of all ages work as a community to assist others. Our newest service learning initiative is a school-wide project with the Education Partnership, a non-profit group that provides free supplies to schools where at least 70% of students meet income eligibility guidelines for free and reduced price meals.

This new initiative kicked off at an October 1 assembly where students in grades 4 to 12 learned about the Education Partnership's mission from Amanda McQuillan, Community Engagement Coordinator for the Education Partnership. Amanda was joined by Pittsburgh Steeler Chris Hoke and Jim Lakin from KDKA-TV.

Ellis students and faculty agreed that each grade will work to collect a specific item such as pencils, glue, or markers identified by the Education Partnership as a priority. The first batch of donations is planned for later  this fall.
